A few kind words about Sookie:
I know that here on this blog, it’s mostly Eric Northman, 24/7. I won’t lie — he is my favourite character on True Blood, and what can I tell you? I love a big, tall, beautiful man. Unapologetically. But, the only reason I love him as much as I do, rather than just saying once “Wow — Skarsgard is super handsome” is who Eric is in the story, and everything I love most about him is the way he loves Sookie, and for the most part, does justice to her when no one else does.
It always amazes me that people can love Eric so much, and then hate Sookie! So much of who Eric is is wrapped up in his relationship with her. His swagger was charming because of the way it hid something else — something that showed up in Sookie’s dreams at first, and then in his actions, as rough as they sometimes were. Even before Eric had amnesia, Sookie was his greatest weakness and his greatest strength, and when she touched him, he was unmasked. How is it possible to love him so much, and then think that most of his strongest emotions are bestowed on so unworthy an object?
Sookie is, according to what I’ve read in just the last two days: a complete moron, a whore, a bitch, a cocktease, the worst friend (sister/employee/girlfriend) in the world, childish, weak, careless, selfish, self-righteous, willing to endanger everyone else for what she cares about, jealous… you name it! She’s responsible for the rift between Eric and Pam! She’s tricked Eric into loving her! She can’t keep her legs closed for five minutes! She’s the town bicycle! She’s dragging her friend into danger and doesn’t care what happens as long as she gets her boyfriend back! She’s a judgemental, short-sighted hypocrite! She’s irritating! She’s useless. She’s a victim, and for some reason that’s beyond my comprehension, that makes her hateful.
And, remember: that’s just what I was able to remember from the past two days.
I would say that it truly shocks me that an audience of MOSTLY WOMEN would judge her this harshly, but it’s not shocking, unfortunately. It’s par for the course. Women’s inability to be kind, or even just fair, to other women is legendary. Feminism in one breath, and all this hate in the next.
Anyway, in light of all this, I wanted to start a thread in which we say some nice things about Sookie, because personally (although love is, in some sense, a mystery by definition) it’s not a mystery to my why Eric loves Sookie. She’s forthright, honest and unspoiled. She’s open minded, kind, generous and faithful. She’ll put her life on the line for the people she loves, and though she’s not fearless, she is brave and principled in a natural, human way. She’s ordinary, but at the same time, she’s unlike anyone else. She’s doing the best she can, but she makes bad decisions sometimes. She’s been hurt, decieved and abused, but she still has it in her to love and to see the best in people and honor it. She’s forgiving, loyal and good, and it gets her into trouble. Most of all, she’s very human. She needs help sometimes and she makes mistakes.
I’ve never liked Sookie more than I did in season 4. I loved how kind she was to Eric, despite all the shit she had so recently (for her) been through with him. Even more than that, though, I loved her loyalty to the whole him. I loved that even when he was sad and needed comfort, she never comforted him with lies, and even though she’d fallen in love with the gentle, human side of him, she never wavered in wanting him restored to himself. I loved it that when he said things to her than weren’t worthy of the Eric she knew — when he wanted to run and hide — she reminded him of who he is, and wouldn’t let him betray himself. And then, even though it broke her heart, she left him because it was the right thing for her to do if she couldn’t be sure of her feelings.
The fact is, as much as I love Eric, and as good and virtuous as I think he is at heart, there is a real sense in which he does not deserve her. A legitimate sense in which, realistically, his “I love you”, as devastaing as it is, is not enough for her. There are real reasons for which Sookie is justified in not being sure if she can love him.
If things go my way on True Blood, Eric’s reaction to being refused by her will be pain and acknowledgement. He’ll have to fight for survival, but he’ll also have to show her who he is — that he is trustworthy, and that he truly loves her.
Anyway.
Let’s give Sookie some love, shall we?
True Blood Season 5 “Everything Is At Stake” New Promo
I don’t think the hand coming out the ground is Tara’s. Is it Pam’s? Did she lay in the ground with Tara? Or is it from the flashback from when she was turned?
i would be the worst teacher ever
I am the worst teacher ever. Well possibly. It definitely feels like it some times.
Going to hand my notice in tomorrow :)

Eric: If you kiss me, i promise to be happy.
Sookie: No.
Eric: Why? It’s only a kiss. What we have learned from this is that wherever Eric is there will always be women and even after his brain is wiped he knows exactly how to take advantage of a situation.
Amen to Eric never losing his ability to make women look how Sookie is looking in the middle gif.
you’re too tall man, too tall. Is there a cut when he actually rises from the lake or….

Jacob as Alexander on True Blood (Credit DharmA Visions)
You play a young vampire in True Blood, tell me about your character?
I play Alexander Drew. He is described as impetuous vamp who likes to taunt others. He is basically a trouble maker. He was turned at the age of nine. So I’m like an old man stuck in a little kid’s body. But if you want to talk authority, I’ve got authority – I get to taunt the big guys – I’m that important!
The show is aimed at much older audience, are you allowed to watch it at all? If not, how did you prepare for the role?
